Blackberry Bush

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:29 pm by bizarrerhymes

My head is like an unkempt blackberry bush.
Each feeler splitting one way then yet another,
Roots creeping along the ground only to find
Some new virgin earth with the right ingredients.

Altogether it is a bush – macrobiotic,
But yet closer – some wild daring plant,
Disappearing under that tin hut
In the field that was once simply for cattle.

Suddenly a crashing frost, deceitful,
Skulks over the young fronds, delicate,
Dead young ideas blackened by the filigree,
Frizzled by the freeze, dulled by the white.
